Dear Laura,

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I am not able to locate version 21.3.1. In the windows repository of GNU Emacs at:

http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/emacs/windows/

you can only download from version 22.3 up.

I have installed GNU Emacs 22.3 (emacs-22.3-bin-i386.zip, the full version, not the "barebin" version) and after that I tried to install Ciao Prolog (binary distribution), but it complains that "EmacsW32+Emacs patched is not installed". I do not know how to circumvent this.

So, I have turned out to the EmacsW32 repository of patched versions at:

http://ourcomments.org/Emacs/DL/EmacsW32/EmacsCVS/ptch/

and downloaded emacs 22.0 plus emacsW32 1.48 (which coincidentally is the version mentioned by Ciao when it does not find it).

After installing it, I have installed Ciao (after uninstalling it previously) and during the installation I have received the same warning in the log file already mentioned. When opening the graphical development environment (the non-graphical Ciao shell works fine), I get the same error:

"Cannot open load file: C:/Program Files/CiaoDE/emacs-mode/ciao-mode-init.el"

As I said, such file does indeed not exist, thus I suspect the problem arises from the Ciao installation rather than from EmacsW32.

I am installing form the current stable binary distribution of Ciao on a Windows 7 machine (32bit, starter edition, SP1).I have repeated the installation process with identical results on a computer loaded with Windows Vista (32bit Home Premium, SP2).

Best regards,

Luis Iraola

Dear Luis and Georges,

I have had some problems with windows 7 32bits and I have solved them installing emacs 21.3.1.

I hope this will solve your problem too.

Best regards

I met exactly the same problem that Luis Iraola ! I sent a mail to ciao-bug@clip.dia.fi.upm.es on the 25/07/2011, but for the moment the only answer is: "your mail is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval", so , as Luis I say:
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Georges
