Announcing Postdoc Positions at the CLIP group ---------------------------------------------- School of Computer Science Technical University of Madrid The CLIP (Computational Logic, Implementation and Parallelism) group (http://clip.dia.fi.upm.es) at the School of Computer Science of the Technical University of Madrid is searching for candidates for postdoctoral research positions in the research areas in which the group is involved. A PhD in Computer Science or related areas is required. These are research positions (no teaching is compulsory, although it is allowed) and renewable for up to 5 years. The initial salary is 28.548 Euros/year plus an initial budget of 5.707 Euros for travel and other expenses during the first year. Knowledge of Spanish is not a prerequisite for application and candidates can be of any nationality. The working language at the CLIP group for research is English. The number of positions available depends on the quality of the applicants. The positions are co-funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology and the Technical University of Madrid within the "Ramon y Cajal" program. Persistent database-connection

Hi, I am trying to figure out how to use the persistent databasesolution with ODBC. I have to questions: 1. I can´t find the serverprogram wich is required to be on the Windows-machine. It is supposed to be in the same directory as the library, but I cant see any C or exe-file. Any suggestions? 2. I have been looking at the example for connecting to the database, and wonder about the parameters: sql_persistent_location(sampledb, %% The 'sampledb' descriptor: db('ASA 6.0 Sample','dba', 'sql','r2d5.dia.fi.upm.es':2020)). What does the parameters in the db-predicate mean? The last one is easy, but what about 'ASA 6.0 Sample' 'dba' and 'sql' Is the first one only for description, the second the name of the table, and the third a constant for all sql-systems? Hi, I'm rather new to Ciao-Prolog and I got a problem creating my own loader file: I want the library(system) to be loaded as soon as I open Emacs in Prolog-mode; so I created a file "myStarter.pl" which only consists of the lines :- use_package(iso). :- use_module(library(system)). but when I consult it (... open it in emacs and ^C^C) I'm still not able to use e.g. cd('..') or directory_files('.',F). I first have to enter the use_module(library(system)) clause again. What am I doing wrong? How can I create my individual loader file? Pillow problem with sicstus and Apache on win2000

Hello everybody, I have unsuccessfully been trying to configure pillow to work with sicstus prolog. I have the following configuration: Windows 2000 Professional Apache Web Server with php extensions Sicstus Prolog v.3.8.5 Does anybody know what modifications I should make to httpd.conf in order to make everything work? Might the problem be somewhere else? Thanks in advance, Elena.

This tells the compiler that blah/1 is dynamic, and can be changed during program execution. These predicates are compiled specially, and the compiler must be aware of that. The main/0 call fails (silently) at the point of doing assertz_fact. Note that assertz_fact/1 is a Ciao Prolog extension for asserting facts. If you use the ISO Prolog assertz/1 (slightly less efficient in the case of facts) a runtime error is raised. Programs debugged in the toplevel are also loaded in a special interpreted mode, which happens to be the same as a dynamic predicate. That's why the clause assertion does not fail. However assertz_fact gives an error. assert{a,z}_fact make less tests than the assert{a,z} primitive, which, in part, explains their faster execution. Your program could have been classified as "wrong" (quotes intended) by simple ocular inspection, but other cases, such as main:- ... assertz_fact(G), ... are not so straightforward, and would need a non-trivial amount of analysis. It is our hope to plug other analysis tools we are developing into Ciao Prolog to catch these errors at compile time, without overloading the execution.
