A lot of the issues you mention are related to the fact that we are currently at the same time moving from svn to git, moving all the repositories and the continuous integration system to new servers, and same time moving our servers to a new building --very brave! As a result we are not generating daily releases during the move and fixes are thus not being reflected. Persistent Database

I'm looking for a persistent database system for Ciao. DHT seems to be much more complex than what I need and using the internal database and assert is not quite enough. I'd like a system that at least can keep terms dynamically sorted. Any ideas? Foreign fail or repeat

ciao on windows 64bit

How can I make ciao run on a windows64 system. I only succeeded by using a virtual machine installing a 32bit guest system. But working with a guest system is no fun. There may exist an easier solution. Cheers Walter

Yes, it should work by putting manually the load in your .emacs file: (load-file "c:/Program Files/CiaoDE/emacs-mode/ciao-mode-init.el") After you put this (and restart emacs) it should recognize .pl files as Ciao files, and show all the buttons and menus. Regarding newer versions of emacs, they should work, but if they are too modern some things may not be backward compatible with the code in the (now somewhat old) 1.14 emacs interface. Check for example symbol help: put the cursor on a call to a library predicate (e.g., findall) and hit the symbol help button: |--?--| (or type C-c TAB) and it should take you to the corresponding manual page. This does not work in some newer versions of emacs with 1.14. Newer versions of emacs do work with just fine with Ciao 1.15 (the development version), but unfortunately the emacs part of the 1.15 Windows installer seems to be broken (it is for some reason using cygwin paths) and as we mentioned we are in the middle of switching servers and moving from svn to git and cannot put up a new, working version right now. Please bear with us by using 1.14 until we can upload a new 1.15 (or 1.16) windows installer. I notice when installing Ciao Prolog on Windows a message that Emacs is not installed, and it wants to install Emacs 22. Is there anything wrong with more recent versions? Regards John Sampson

Trouble getting started from source packages, SVN access?

Firstly, I'd like to say thanks for all the work that's been made available; I'm very excited to try so many of the ambitious features of Ciao as well as the seemingly rich support for Emacs. I'm encountering various problems as I try and build from the provided source packages (both stable and development). I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 and have tried: 1.14.2 (r13646) 1.15.0 (r15080) While I can successfully configure and build a "basic" setup, I run into trouble with the optimizing compiler, PAR_BACK, tabling, and CHR. I understand these have been marked "experimental". It also appears that the optimizing compiler is not packaged with these source distributions, so I guess it's not surprising that it would fail to compile. I started to look at the build system itself, to get a better sense of how and where to look for the real errors, but since it's not autotools or something I already know I first thought I'd try building directly from the repository. But, I was unable to find the (SVN?) repository. 1) Is there public (read-only) access to the source repository? 2) Have there been recent changes in trunk that may address compilation issues for experimental features? 3) In the case of (2 and not 1), would someone be kindly enough to cut a new source package based from the latest revision? 4) Would you like me to provide more detailed info about the errors? website moving

Dear Ciao users, We are pleased to announce the new official URL of the Ciao project http://ciao-lang.org (-lang names seems to be the preferred ones for language sites nowadays). All previous URL (http://ciaohome.org, http://cliplab.org/Software/Ciao) will still be working. They are being redirected (HTTP 301) to the new address automatically. We also plan to change our mailing list to "...(a)ciao-lang.org" addresses as soon as we finish a change of server and server location (following our change to git!) that is all still under way (that is also the reason why the rate of snapshots has been a bit irregular, but we should get back to nightly snapshots soon).
