I've corrected a few issues with the first Ciao-Prolog package for Debian. Please update to the new version at http://www.debian.org/~bfulgham/packages if you have not done so already (this is version -2).
Thanks,
-Brent

I found a remaining (and serious) problem with the package, which will necessitate another update (to -3). I didn't realize that the installation process embeds the install path throughout the built software. Consequently, I'm pretty sure no one will be able to use the package in its current state.
I've just about completed a revised version that fixes the problem, but didn't have time to upload. I will do so this evening. Sorry for the inconvenience.
One note: The current Makefile system is not ideal for someone attempting to create a binary package because it embeds the install location in the finished binaries and scripts. Many software packages honor a variable called DESTDIR that allows you to configure and build packages with a "final destination" of /usr, but a temporary "build install" of someplace like /projects/src/clip/ciao/temp so that you can bundle everything into a tarball for distribution.
If you wanted any suggestions for the existing build system, I would recommend that you allow the system to be built for "final install" at one location, but allow the "make install" to place all of its output in another directory.
Thanks,
-Brent

Hi Brent, you are very right. We will try to see how we can accommodate for this in the next version(s). Thanks for the pointer!

I've carefully tested this version (-3), and believe it to work properly. Apologies to anyone inconvenienced by the earlier version.
You can download it from http://www.debian.org/~bfulgham/packages. (x86 binary). Other architectures can download the souces, *.dsc, and *.diff files and use dpkg-buildpackage to build a suitable binary for your system.
Thanks,
