Does anyone know how soon the 1.8 release of CIAO will be made available? I am reluctant to install 1.7#162 if the new version will be along shortly. Chris

clp(FD)?

Can clp(fd) programs be run under Ciao. I have read through the documentation and see that it supports clp(r) and clp(q) but no mention of fd. I have a simple program as follows I am trying to run. /* A kid goes into a grocery store and buys four items. The cashier charges $7.11. The kid pays and is about to leave when the cashier calls the kid back, and says "Hold on, I multiplied the four items instead of adding them; I'll try again... Gosh, with adding them the price still comes to $7.11"! ^C l command on emacs

i have install ciao on macos x When i open a .pl file the menu Ciao/Prolog CiaoPP LPdoc appears but there are empty when i make ^C l i have the message "searching for program : no such file or directory , ciao. i have added in .emacs file the line (load-file "/Library/ciao/DOTemacs.el") what is the trouble I'm just a beginner ans certainly these questions is current; Thanks for answering

Thank you Francisco, I hope you dont mind me writing back to all the users. I have been working on the perl side for now, and have implemented a POSTGRES database table system for storing all the facts. It turns out that a DB is very comfortable to use. Now prolog will be very interesting to use for the analysis and queries, because many of the queries to validate programs and analyse semantics are logical in nature. Do you think that such a cacheing system is interesting even if there is a database? I mean, caching is also a way implement swapping, but if you have a datbase, who will be implementing the caching? How hard will it be to create a DB access to an existing database, what are your experiences? Note also that the upper bound on the number of "active" facts is related to each goal to the predicate, so you have to do some estimation: the bound x the number of goals active (i.e., which still have a possibility to be backtracked into) at any given time during execution should be lower than the total number of facts of the predicate. Otherwise, you will end up having more facts in memory than those that define the predicate itself, with the effect of overloading Prolog's memory instead of alleviating it!! Please, also note that I have not thoroughly tested this package, so it is kind of in beta mode. Anyway, I hope you find it useful! Hello I am new user of CIAO/PROLOG, I need to know which is the equivalent of the predicate load_html_file/2 that is used with the version of SWI-Prolog. As I use this predicate in CIAO. Cygwin compilation problems

Hello everyone and sorry if this has been asked before. I couldn't find a relative reference in the archive of messages. I wanted to run Ciao Prolog on my Win98 system, mainly to create cgi programs for use on an apache web server. Although the ciao compiler created the cgi program without any problems, each time the program was accessed from the web page ciaoengine.exe crashed (consistently). Believing that this was mainly a windows problem, I decided to use Ciao under cygwin.So I 'm trying to compile Ciao Prolog 1.7p162 in Cygwin (again under Windows 98). I 've updated the SETTINGS file as needed. I run "make install" and the results were the following: - Compiling ciao succeeds with no warnings - Compiling ciao standalone compiler fails when the following command is run: ciaoc -s -x gen_asr (ERROR: segmentation violation) Any ideas? Hi! I am a novice user and I need to know how to start the top level with Emacs When I call ciaosh from command line, I think it work correctly. Ciao-Prolog 1.7 #162: fri Dec 14 18:48:23 2001 ?- But If I call it from Emacs, I can`t start it.The only message that appear is: use_module('c:/Archivos de programa/ciao-1.7p162Win32/examples/hw.pl'). in a buffer whose mode is (Ciao/Prolog/LPdoc Listener: run) Thank you for help me, Juan Quiroga

One more question if I may ;-) In version 17#115 I needed to include in my programs the following directive: :- use_module(library(hiord_rt)). but this seams to be broken or changed in the new version. I get errors like: error(existence_error(procedure,/(user:call,7)),/(user:call,7)) when running programs that make use of meta-calls. Reading the documentation, it seams that the hiord_rt predicates have moved to the engine?
