*** CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS *** ICLP 2017 33rd International Conference on Logic Programming August 29 - September 1, 2017 Melbourne, Australia http://iclp17.a4lp.org ICLP 2017, the 33rd International Conference on Logic Programming, will be held in Melbourne, Australia, from August 29 to September 1, 2017. The ICLP conference series has a long standing tradition of hosting a rich set of co-located workshops. ICLP workshops provide a unique opportunity for the presentation and discussion of work that can be preliminary in nature, novel ideas, and new open problems to a wide and interested audience. Co-located workshops also provide an opportunity for presenting specialized topics and opportunities for intensive discussions and project collaboration. The topics of the workshops co-located with ICLP 2017 can cover any areas related to logic programming, (e.g., theory, implementation, environments, language issues, alternative paradigms, applications), including cross-disciplinary areas. However, any relevant workshop proposal will be considered. The format of the workshop will be decided by the workshop organizers, but ample time should be allowed for general discussion. Workshops can vary in length, but the optimal duration will be half a day or a full day. Workshop Proposal: ================== Those interested in organizing a workshop at ICLP 2017 are invited to submit a workshop proposal. Proposals should be in English and about two pages in length. They should contain: * The title of the workshop. * A brief technical description of the topics covered by the workshop. * A discussion of the timeliness and relevance of the workshop. * A list of some related workshops held in the last years * The estimated length of the workshop and an estimate of the number of expected attendees. * The names, affiliation and contact details (email, web page, phone) of the workshop organizers together with a designated contact person. * Previous experience of the workshop organizers in workshop/conference organization. Proposals are expected in text or PDF format. All proposals should be submitted to the Workshop Chair by email by March 27, 2017. Reviewing Process: ================== Each submitted proposal will be reviewed by the Workshop, Program and General Chairs. Proposals that appear well-organized and that fit the goals and scope of ICLP will be selected. The decision will be notified by email to the responsible organizer by April 10, 2017. The definitive length of the workshop will be planned according to the number of submissions received by the different workshops. For every accepted workshop, the ICLP local organizers will prepare a meeting room. The workshops and the conference organizers will collaborate in establishing a uniform approach to produce uniform and accessible proceedings for the workshops. Workshop Organizers' Tasks: =========================== * Producing a "Call for Papers" for the workshop and posting it on the Internet and other means. A web page URL should be provided by May 1, 2017, and will be published on the ICLP 2017 home page. * Providing a brief description of the workshop for the conference program. * Reviewing/accepting submitted papers. * Scheduling workshop activities in collaboration with the local organizers and the Workshop Chair. * Providing a workshop program in a format specified by the conference organizers for posting by August 15, 2017. * Coordinating the preparation of the workshop proceedings according to the specifications provided by the Workshop chair. Can't run code that works on SWI-Prolog

Downloaded and installed the "stable" version (1.14) on Ubuntu and tried to run code that works fine on SWI-Prolog. One predicate used is call/1 and Ciao places that in a library hiord_rt that doesn't appear to be included in the stable version. How do I get and install that library? Or is there a workaround? New Release Candidate

Dear Ciao Developers, I read an earlier post "Re: [Ciao-users] Ciao mode on emacs failed" and was (and still is) excited to know that a new release candidate is in the making. I need to use Prolog on both Ubuntu and Windows 7 (64 bit). In Ciao 1.15, the Windows binary required admin rights to install. As I do not have admin rights on the Windows box I am on, is it possible for the upcoming Ciao's Windows binary to not require admin rights? Better still, could it be a portable distro (that is, installing is simply unzipping). For your consideration please. Thanks, WK

Ciao mode on emacs failed

Hi, I'm new to Ciao-prolog and I'm trying to use emacs 24.5 to edit my .pl file. But the ciao mode is not shown at all. I installed the CiaoDE 1.14.2 on Ubuntu, with emacs 24.5. I put (if (file-exists-p "~/Downloads/Ciao/emacs-mode/ciao-mode-init.el") (load-file "~/Downloads/Ciao/emacs-mode/ciao-mode-init.el") ) but it doesn't work.. Please help me to install the ciao mode correctly, I'll appreciate it! Best Regards, Xiao

Special Issue of Theory and Practice of Logic Programming Past and Present (and Future) of Parallel and Distributed Computation in (Constraint) Logic Programming http://www.cs.nmsu.edu/~ffiorett/cfp/TPLP2017/ Since its inception, logic programming has been recognized as an ideal paradigm for addressing the needs of parallel computing. An extensive literature has been developed exploring issues like automated parallelization of logic programs, the use of logic programs to describe parallel and distributed computations, and logic programming models to capture concurrency and facilitate the development of provably correct concurrent applications. After over 30 years of research in these domains, the state of the art has reached a stage where technologies are highly complex and sophisticated, and applications are plentiful. Yet, the continuous development of novel architectures (e.g., the onset of GPU-based computing; the widespread use of simple inter-connected devices, like Arduino and Raspberry Pi; the development of affordable multi-core platforms and reconfigurable computing; the widespread use of cloud computing), the appearance of new domains and potential applications (e.g., big data), and the developments in novel logic programming languages and paradigms are creating new research opportunities and fueling new ideas and developments. The goal of this special issue is to provide a multi-fold perspective of research at the junction between parallel and distributed computation and (constraint) logic programming: 1. Provide well-thought assessments of the state of the art (e.g., in the form of well organized surveys, personal perspectives) 2. Describe cutting-edge coverage of new developments (e.g., novel execution models, innovative systems and implementations) 3. Describe new research directions, offering clear motivations, new perspectives and solid foundations for other researchers to build upon 4. Ciao Prolog to Java Interface

Hello Dear Ciao, Ciao has a library call "javart" that has a capability to call a java class or module - according to the Ciao documentation - inside prolog using its predicates. I tried to use it but unfortunately no luck and no samples inside Ciao folder .. just only one and it's complicated and it can not be run. So please can you provide me with samples or documentation - because current online documentation is just hints - that can provide a full scenario of creation and calling. By the way, I'm a new in Ciao environment and I noticed that there's many difficulties using or accessing external resources like: - MySQL DB using Persdb_MySQL library - Java classes using javart library B. addendum on emacs-24.5 and prolog.el

I forgot, I run NetBSD on an i386 laptop. The development ciao was failing because it wanted a linux86 directory to hold the ciao engine and building for BSDi86 obviously would not do this. I didn't document the problem, and I did not fix what I could with the build system. On that topic, could I suggest #!/usr/bin/env bash for shell setting, since on BSD and other non-SYSV systems, bash is not built to /bin. Thanks. John R. Towler jtowler(a)soncom.com

emacs 24.5 hidden settings

Hello, I recently built the stable version of ciao prolog. The development version didn't build the engine etc. correctly, though it seemed to. Stable is fine. I ran into a problem with it setting itself by hidden settings to change the prolog selected by default by FSF emacs' prolog.el, updated to Stefan Bruda's latest version. How can I configure Ciao so that this does not occur. I am not fully commiting to using ciao prolog as my first prolog environment, and I would add Ciao to the list, but reserve to myself what the defaults are to in part prevent a non-productive competitive aspect into the minds of whoever reads this. I think Ciao's tcl/tk interface might help my porting/getting working of van Noord's Hdrug as a graphical grammar environment to work with Carpenter and Penn's ALE both of which were written for Sicstus Prolog. Clear summary: What causes Ciao prolog to modify the variable bindings for emacs-24.5's $EMACS/24.5/lisp/progmodes/prolog.el. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, John R. Towler jtowler(a)soncom.com
