I've had no such trouble with 1.10p7 and emacs 21.3.1 on SuSE 9. Any suggestions?
I had the same problem. Look at the archives of the mailing list:
I've now applied the patch. No difference in behaviour! Questions: 1. Which file should be altered: a. /local/lib/ciao/ciao.el (I have installed ciao into /local) or the source file b. ....emacs-mode/ciao.el.body
If b. do you then do another make and make install?
2. What are the .elc files. (Are they compiled from the corresponding .el files?)

You will find a patch for the ciao.el file which makes things work (at least for me).
