Thanks for the report. It does seem that a bug has crept in --we are looking into it. Btw, we have integrated lately an alternative finite domains library 'clpfd' (contributed by Emilio Gallego and others). It is in the system repository but we have noticed that it is not being included in the 1.15 snapshot distros. We will include it shortly. Ciao compilation errors

Hello I have just installed Ciao Development environment for Windows and I am trying to compile the example of this section of the manual ( I used the CD command first): http://www.ciaohome.org/Legacy/ciao_html/ciao_4.html#SEC50 My error appears when I try to use ?- make_exec(hw,_). Hi, While doing some experimentation with Ciao's FD solver, I found some unusual and apparently wrong answers. The version I tried was "Ciao 1.15.0-13646: Fri Nov 4 11:40:25 CET 2011" Yo can in fact write constraints like the one below: ?- X.>.12. X attributed '$fd'(X,[[13|67108863]],[]) ? The answer is right (if I understand the notation properly), but the same constraint written backwards does not work: ?- 12.<.X. X attributed '$fd'(X,[],[]) ? This seems to mean something like "There is no solution for X", which is wrong (although Ciao still responds "yes" for this case). In general, any constraint written as <constant> .op. <free var> will suffer the same problem. Was this problem known?. If so, is there any correction for it?. Thanks. Kind regards, Jose

DES 2.7 Released

This is a mail just for informing that the new release Datalog Educational System version 2.7 http://des.sourceforge.net has been launched on January, 3rd, 2012, and ported to Ciao Prolog 1.14.2 The most relevant enhancement in current release is the addition of an extended relational algebra processor. It includes all the original operators but division, and extended operators for dealing with outer joins, duplicate elimination, recursion, and grouping with aggregates. Syntax follows WinRDBI [Diet01], so that in particular all of its examples run straight on DES. Another useful improvement is a new switchable multi-line mode, allowing entering inputs which span over several lines. This applies to both the command prompt and the processing of batch files, and it is enabled with the command /multiline on. Supported SQL language has been extended a bit with new clauses for DDL statements, as well as for metadata information. Parsing of Datalog and SQL files and inputs has been enhanced: it now runs faster and appropriately handles operators. Column and relation renamings in SQL statements have been revisited and several issues have been solved. This is a mail just for informing that the new release Datalog Educational System version 2.6 http://des.sourceforge.net has been launched on October, 26th, 2011, and ported to Ciao Prolog 1.14.2 Current version introduces several enhancements. A novel one includes a proposal for hypothetical SQL queries which allow to assume extra tuples in existing relations (either tables or views). Such queries are useful, for instance, in decision support systems as they allow to submit a query by assuming some knowledge which is not in the database. Also, top-n SQL queries are included, following ISO 2008, as well as the other common form TOP. The metapredicate top/2 is also added to Datalog with the same aim of restricting the number of tuples in the answer of any goal. Supported SQL has been extended to cope with SQL statements in any legal part of the projection list (as, e.g., components of arithmetic expressions). Although performance is not the target of this educational system, hash indexing has been added to the extension table, therefore speeding-up computations. Syntax error reports and time displays have been enhanced, as well as help on commands and built-ins, and hints on them for misspelled entries. TAPI has been extended for some commands. Several new commands have been added; in particular /check_db which allows to get a consistency report on a database. The Ciao Mac installer currently installs in /opt/local (similarly to other compilers). Uninstallation is done with the Uninstall script that comes with the installer. You can also install and uninstall from source of course. In any case the uninstaller that comes with the installer should not hang of course.
