Installing Ciao on Mac OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

I downloaded Ciao for Mac OSX Snow Leopard. The install seemed to be OK and gave the message that install was successful, but the program is not in the Applications folder and I can¹t find it anywhere. I tried to Uninstall it, but the uninstall simply timed out. Anyone else find this problem? David Harris

Windows installer issues

Some Ciao users have recently reported problems with the Ciao windows installer. We have determined that, due to what we assume are recent changes in Windows security, normal users, even if with administrator privileges, are not allowed any more to perform certain operations which are necessary for the installation of many packages, such as updating registry entries. Unfortunately, instead of issuing an error the registry update operation simply fails silently. This is currently affecting GNU Emacs, Ciao, and a number of other packages. The solution, at least for now, is to run the installers as administrator. We have added the following note in the distribution/download pages: Note for Windows users: the setup program must be executed as Administrator. To do this save it first (do not execute it directly), go to the directory where the file was downloaded, right-click over the file, select Run as administrator (in Windows XP, Run as... and then select the user Administrator), and follow the instructions that appear on the screen. Please remember to follow these instructions for Windows installations. Independently of this we are working currently on a number of improvements to the Ciao Windows installer. DES 2.5 Released

This is a mail just for informing that the new release Datalog Educational System version 2.5 http://des.sourceforge.net has been launched on September, 13th, 2011, and ported to Ciao Prolog 1.14.2 Current version introduces a textual API (Textual Application Programming Interface) for its communication with external applications, rather than providing a Prolog underlying system dependent API. It can used via standard input and output streams, as provided by the OS. Input syntax is as of DES, whereas answers follow a concrete format for easing their parsing. Several existing commands, statements and queries can be processed via this interface. As well, a couple of new SQL statements for renaming tables and views and a bundle of new commands are provided and supported for this interface. New SQL constraints have been added: existency and candidate keys. Type inferencing has been added to SQL DQL queries, in addition to the already supported DDL queries. Syntax error reportings and hints have been upgraded. Also, new ports to new versions of supported Prolog systems have been provided. We do not include command line history in the shell itself since this is provided by the gui interface (e.g., emacs) and is easy to provide that externally. For example, you can run: emacs -f ciao and you will get a top level in a window with full command line history (CTRL and up cursor, CTRL and down cursor, etc.), plus all of the Ciao emacs mode goodies, if you want to use them (e.g., the source level debugger, direct access to the documenter, editing, etc.). ciaosh command line history

Hello everyone, I have recently installed ciao-prolog on my mac os x and my ubuntu machines. I just want to know if command line history a la UNIX shells (e.g. CTRL-R and up cursor) is implemented at all in ciaosh since they don't seem to work in both of my machines. emacs interface will not install correctly on Win7 64

Like other people I appear to have problems with the install on windows 7-64, first and foremost the installer does not recognise the Emacs version that it downloads itself and auto-starts a new emacs download at every time the installer is invoked (looking in a hardcoded path rather than the windows program path perhaps ? eg \program files rather than \program files (x86) ?) . Also the batch files run at the end of the install do not function properly and appear to be trying to find a folder that is not there Tested latest stable and development versions downloaded today Any ideas?

Thanks a lot ! The latest version works fine. To the extent that I have been able to test it (opening a simple source file, loading and querying it in the Ciao shell) the system works well both under windows 7 and windows vista. Emacs now enters into Ciao mode as expected. There are a couple of glitches, most probably due to the development status of the version. I attach the file 'environment_ciao.log' in case you want to read the errors printed during installation. The content of the file is identical on both installations. On the windows 7 machine, three warnings are issued by the Ciao engine when it starts both within EmacsW32 as well as when you start it as a character-based shell: Warning: cannot create /cygdrive/c/Program Files/CiaoDE/ciao/lib/default_predicates.itf Warning: cannot create /cygdrive/c/Program Files/CiaoDE/ciao/lib/dec10_io.itf Warning: cannot create /cygdrive/c/Program Files/CiaoDE/ciao/lib/iso_byte_char.itf But otherwise the Prolog engine seems to work fine. These warnings are absent on the windows vista machine. Again, thank you very much for your quick fix, much so considering we are in the middle of an August weekend. I met exactly the same problem that Luis Iraola ! I sent a mail to ciao-bug(a)clip.dia.fi.upm.es on the 25/07/2011, but for the moment the only answer is: "your mail is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval", so , as Luis I say: Any help will be much appreciated.
